There's been some words floating around on the grapevine. 'Dubstep' and 'dying' are the main ones. However, like a fine wine, it seems to not be dying - far from it - but maturing into something pretty bearable, going by the name of 'Chillstep'. In fact I would say it's beyond bearable, pleasant, outstanding, even. Frankly I don't understand how it took people so long to understand that Dubstep was far more suited to a relaxed vibe than the aggressive, over-produced distorted synth line it took before.
After the jump are some of the latest Chillstep tunes that have been soothing our increasingly aggravated, busy and 'responsible' lives in the Gamma Gamma Frat House.
Ps. This genre has developed a wonderful mindset of giving most of their songs away for free, since they've figured most people just download it for free elsewhere anyway. If you search around then you can get a lot of good music in good quality without spending a dime.

Ambient and Chill Out music is, well, chilled. And in all senses 'beautiful' (inverted commas are for the fact that few people take you seriously when you call music beautiful). We're going to be straight up, normally we try to tell you a bit about the artists, but to be completely honest, the guys we're uploading are not massively famous artists or people who have a big 'live' music presence. Also as per the title - we thought we might try and explore a few new genres that people may not have had the free time to do themselves. So we thought we'd do a bit for you. But, as a result, a lot of these guys are new to us so forgive the occasional lack of normal spiel! Check it out after the jump, and save these for a rainy day at work where you're having a bit of a daydream... it suits it well. Listen with headphones or turn your bass up high for maximum effect (and always listen at 720p when possible - it makes a massive difference to sound quality!). Enjoy.

Here at the Gamma Gamma Frat House a few of us have frequent debates about Dubstep. Is it actually crap, good or just a generally misunderstood genre unless you live and breathe it (something we don't really have the energy to do - if you've seen a Dubstep skanking pit you'll understand...)? The major issue people seem to have is like the screaming in Screamo or Hardcore, something termed 'Wobble', something which occasionally dominates the song and becomes a bit overbearing. What we have tried to bring you here is some quality dubstep that are songs more than they are just 'Wobble' and 'Drop', and hopefully for those who have completely rejected Dubstep initially will get you a bit interested in the genre. We completely understand that this genre is one which causes a bit of a debate, so have a listen and sound off. Fingers crossed you enjoy!

So we've just come back from a 2 week surf in France, and yes, we can confirm that surfing and Liquid Drum and Bass are a match made in heaven. I would also like to apologise for my lack of posting recently (new house, new job, holidays, you know the drill), but don't worry there's a shed load to come. Continuing the theme of the last post (see here), we thought we'd try and find some more smooth tunes that just melt. There's also a couple of awesome albums/ singles coming out from Hospital Records and other unsigned acts over the coming month so stay tuned, and keep it chilled.

Is it just us, or is Liquid the most amazing music to listen to in Summer? Coach Dave's posts will keep you beer ponging until the early hours, but hopefully you'll turn to these when faced with a chilled night out in the garden with a beer or 4, a shed load of meat for the barbecue and a bunch of your mates. Or if you're like us sporadically want to put a smile on your face. Or if you're doing a spot of sunrise surfing and catching the early morning swell, with just the ocean, a pain au chocolat and an empty break in front of you. Either way, we've done some digging and here are some of the most beautiful tunes we could find. Enjoy (and let us know if we're missing some!).

Sometime moving into the year 2000, Pop Punk became momentarily 'cool'. Kids would walk around with their Sony Walkman (we're talking tapes here - old school recorded from a CD player like) and goofy old headphones, perfectly content with openly listening to Greenday, The Offspring, New Found Glory and Blink 182. Then something happened, I don't know what, but people started listening to Speed Garage and underground Hip Hop, and suddenly the kids that used to wear big Etnies with Vans jeans suddenly traded them in for Armani jeans with rubbish 'cool as FCUK' t-shirts.
Well, here at TopJLax we have always been proud of liking Pop Punk. It was the American Pie series that really enforced this, with babes in bikinis, lax jocks with backward baseball caps and ridiculous frat house parties that basically top any party we have ever been to. Ever.
This here is a tribute to that - enjoy!

Netsky is incredible. He has gone from strength to strength and is an absolute personal favourite in the Gamma Gamma Frat House. We thought that because he's so bloody good we should give him his own personal slot and we'd pick out a few of his best. If you like Liquid you'll love him, if you don't you'll probably love him as well. If you're Coach Dave you'll hate him.

Steve Hoang's a bit weird.
He makes strange R'n'B and I don't think he looks like a very cool person. However, this MRSA remix of his 'Tell Me Why' is absolutely pumping, combining a trancey edge with liquid d'n'b. It's massive and has got summer written all over it - check it out.

New Drum and Bass tunes for the Summer days
Sometimes you stumble across a few tunes that you just feel you really need to share with the world, cos they are just too damn good to get played on your ipod, and yours alone!
