There's been some words floating around on the grapevine. 'Dubstep' and 'dying' are the main ones. However, like a fine wine, it seems to not be dying - far from it - but maturing into something pretty bearable, going by the name of 'Chillstep'. In fact I would say it's beyond bearable, pleasant, outstanding, even. Frankly I don't understand how it took people so long to understand that Dubstep was far more suited to a relaxed vibe than the aggressive, over-produced distorted synth line it took before.
After the jump are some of the latest Chillstep tunes that have been soothing our increasingly aggravated, busy and 'responsible' lives in the Gamma Gamma Frat House.
Ps. This genre has developed a wonderful mindset of giving most of their songs away for free, since they've figured most people just download it for free elsewhere anyway. If you search around then you can get a lot of good music in good quality without spending a dime.

Blackmill - Oh Miah

Blackmill is so sick. It's not even particularly funny. He's just sick. Seriously, if there is one thing you do today check out his channel here. Apparently he's from the Highlands. Just so you knew. There must be ultra-cool inspirational places around there to make music as good as this.
Also - this video is ridiculously cool - BLU does some of the most complex stop-animation (correct?) I've seen, and although slightly copied from some other bloke it is awe-some.

Metrik - Ocean Drive

Okay so this is a bit of a cheat... because this could technically fit into Liquid as well as Chillstep, but since the BPM is somewhere in the middle I thought I would let it fly...
Beautiful track - and what's better is that it's free here. Download it! Why wouldn't you?!

Asa & KOAN Sound - Kaneda

Bloody hell. Wow. This is amazing. I literally had this on repeat for the whole of today. It is so good it's not even funny. Listen. Now.

Asa - Leave The Light On

Because I'm bumming Asa so hard at the moment, I thought I'd stick another one on. The range of lyrics and vocal samples in this are brilliant. Not only that but this one is also FREE! Download it here.

Phaeleh (feat. Soundmouse) - Breathe In Air

An old favourite here. Phaeleh has been progressing this branch of Dubstep for ages and deserves the credit. He was on another post a few months ago, but his stuff is generally incredible (look for the tracks with vocals for his best stuff).
So that's it for now. As per, sound off below and let me know your thoughts on 'Chillstep'. It's pretty emerging so would be interesting to see where people thought it would end up!

Stay safe

Peace

Bo

Why you have to go and create another stupid name to classiy this is beyond me.

dubstep is dubstep.

its not 'chillstep' or 'brostep' or 'clownstep'.

this is why the scene is dissolving.

whoever thought of the term 'chillstep', deserves to be shot in the face. More redundant 'box labelling' for the uninitiated to identify with. Simply awful.
