Now i'm not someone who believes in the all encompassing power of gym supplements: I believe that a change in your diet, lifestyle or workout programme will likely have a better effect on your training and the hitting of goals you might set for yourself, but I also do not deny that there are times when supplementation in your diet can be practical and useful. Pre-Workout supplements fall into this category for me. The vast majority of them are a blend of Creatine, Caffeine and Beta-Alanine, all of which should be read up on before taking, but they are fairly simple and straightforward ingredients that I have found make a lot of difference to your training and attitude. In this post I will be reviewing a number of Pre-Workout supplements that I have personally tried and will attempt to give you as honest an appraisal of their effects as possible.

Coach Dave discusses the importance of compound lifts as an important foundation of any effective weight lifting program.

Compound exercises – those that involve more than one muscle or joint – should form the foundations of any strength training programme because of their tried and tested ability to bring about rapid gains. Exercises such as the squat and deadlift have been used by lifters for many years to increase muscle mass and strength for the simple reason that they work. Over time a multitude of exercises have been developed to isolate small muscles or specific parts of a muscle, using a variety of different pieces of equipment, however these exercises may never be able to deliver significant increases in the same way as compound exercises. If you’re looking to make fast gains then get back to basics.
