Southern Counties Championship - Review 05/17/2011
Last Saturday was a groundbreaking moment for SEMLA as they resurrected the Southern Counties Tournament. This competition pitted 10 regions from the South of England against each other to find out who was crowned the 2011 Southern Counties Champs. TopJLax stopped by to check out some of the action at Reading and find out which county came out on top. We also shared some cake with ELF President Peter Mundy... it was his 82nd birthday!

TopJCheck-In: Exeter Lacrosse 03/21/2011
The boys in green from Exeter have come onto our radar a few times in the last year, so we decided it was about time we checked in with them properly, especially after their stellar season winning the BUCS Southern Premiership, and their SEMLA team sitting in 3rd in Zenith West 2. University Lax is where the game is currently growing the most, and we thought we'd find out how it was rockin' down in the South West... hey they've even got surf there no?
Cambridge v Oxford is a historic match-up and rivalry. The boat race, rugby at Twickenham,..etc. etc.... and Varsity Lacrosse. In the 95th Varsity match this year, ArchLevel lacrosse was there to catch all the action from the event and produce a video for all those who didn't brave the damp.
Up 10-1 at half time Cambridge withstood an Oxford comeback to win the game 14-9. Having also won SEMLA East Divison One and with a possibility of promotion to the Premiership it's a good time to be a 'Bridge Laxer.

Here is a question for you all, what separates the best lacrosse players from everyone else? What makes some teams "unbeatable", and others a "walk over"? Well according to a new organisation that has just sprung up on the UK Lacrosse horizon, that one word is..."Preparation". When this word is brought up in front of the coaches running the newly formed ArchLevel Lacrosse they quickly jump in to tell us that one word is what they are all about - preparing you and your team for the intense mental and physical challenges of your Lacrosse season. After hearing their motto "Our obsession is Your progression" we decided we should find out more.

23 year old Glenn Humphreys from Rawtenstall near Blackburn has had a lacrosse stick in his hand since the age of 3 and first played U16 lacrosse at the age of 9. Last season he was the top goalscorer in the Northern Premiership, playing for Rochdale and combining for a total of 67 points that was good enough for the second highest points in the league. On the eve of the new season, TopJLax thought we'd find out what makes a player of this calibre tick.

How do players in the UK go about making the next step and getting themselves onto a college programme in the US? Whilst it's not impossible, take Sam Russell (Whittier College) or Thomas Brooks (Manhattan) for example, there certainly isn't an established system for exposing the talent pool of UK players to our stateside neighbour. Cue Scott Weddell stepping up to the plate, and his brainchild England Knights Lacrosse. TopJLax went along to meet Scott and find out a little more.
TopJInterview: It's "Beanz" emotional 07/14/2010

Firstly, really sorry about that awful pun. It's a lot harder than you think to come up with a sentence including the word Beanz. Moving on from that, meet Carl "Beanz" Maitland, a UK lax demi-god of epic proportions. He's going to be playing in the festival surrounding the Worlds that is so very close to starting. We thought we'd have a word with him to hear about his story, where he's "Beanz" and how he got there... ok, we'll stop it now.
TopJSpotlight: Chester Romans 07/11/2010

The England/North Wales border is not currently known as a hot bed for the sport of Lacrosse, and until now was lacking in clubs for local players to play in. Until this season that is. One of the new clubs hitting the lacrosse radar for the 2010/11 season will be Chester Romans, the product of Dave Nash, formally of Portsmouth Uni Lacrosse Club, who returned home to the area and decided he couldn't do without his lacrosse fix.
TopJPhotos: Pictures from Warwick University 07/04/2010

So TopJLax saw these photos and decided they looked so good we thought we better share them with out readers. George Whitworth gets all the credit for these good looking pictures from Warwick University, covering the Finals day of "Thursday Night Lights", the inter-Warwick Summer 6's competition that runs every Thursday night.
A New Generation of Laxers 06/26/2010

At this Summer's World Games England U-19's are entering a team in the Festival tournament running alongside the main event. This year that side will feature four new players who all play at the same club team. As previously mentioned in the Interview with Matt Bagley this represents the first international call-up for four Blues Lacrosse players, Ewan Willsmer, Lewis Arnold, James Kidd, and Ollie Barrett. One of the things we love best here in the Gamma Gamma Frat House is the growth of the game, so we thought it'd be prudent to catch up with Ewan Willsmer and Lewis Arnold and find out a little bit more. Read more after the jump.
