Now we're going to make some people famous! Not quite the cover of Time magazine, but along those lines. This is a call to all those budding photographers, sport-still enthusiasts, and generally anyone who has a catalogue of shots your girlfriend took that time she came to watch you. Over the next week we are going to work hard accumulating what we think are the best lacrosse photos from UK Lax and discussing them on TopJ.
To kick off this exciting new section, what better theme than the kick off of a lax game- the Face-Off. So please send any great Face-Off snaps to articles@topjlax.com, along with the name of the laxer and team, and the game its from (all this is of course optional if you are one of those types who prefers to remain anonymous).
Lets take a look at some shots from our state-side collegiate brothers...
So since we last featured ArchLevel Lacrosse on the front pages of TopJLax things have been going from good to great and the company are snowballing into 2011 with plenty of exciting new developments that they are going to bring to the world of UK Laxers. We plan to bring a full update of the developments to y'all in the near future (so watch this space)... but in the mean time lets check in with the highlights.
Over here at TopJTowers we were getting slightly down beat about the darkness, general chill, and muddy-ness of the winter, and on top of all that, how it makes our fly lacrosse gear so damn dirty. Our thoughts turned to the warm glows of a summer evening, and how life just seems that darn bit rosier under the glow of the summer sun. So we decided to give you a quick trip down memory lane of why summer is so good, just to help you through those last few winter months.
What a crazy week in the Premiership... 4 ties and a convincing victory. We haven't had a tie all season and then suddenly 4 come along at once. Overtime anyway? Difficult to read much from this week, with Blues stamping their authority on the division, EG coming off the back end of a tough loss, and everyone else pretty much proving that the division is as tight as you like. Way to be a fan at some of these games... free action to the highest order, all served with a dose of aggression and fly goals. Bam. Only bad thing is it's messed up our record system... to explain that's (Wins - Ties - Losses) Folks...
Bad weather and moving schedules over the last month mean that varied numbers of games have consequently been played by teams, making it harder to guess how it will all pan out in the end. A mid-season surge has seen the likes of Reading and Hampstead exert their dominance with decisive victories over the likes of Blues, Spencer and Hillcroft. The early leaders are slipping back down to the rest of the pack leaving the prem as anyone's for the taking. Well...that is discounting Blues who are still comfortably in the lead after being humbled by the new bad-boys of lax Reading Wildcats.
So Josh Lane has dropped another lax video, '2011 College Lacrosse Promo'. Personally I don't think it's quite as good as his other work, the 2010 Lacrosse Highlights are a hard thing to top, but he has obviously tried to use new shots that were not in his past videos, which takes some time and effort to dig up, so maybe i'm being unfair. Music track's decent, not amazing, but maybe it'll grow on me.
After the jump is the video. Let me know what you make of it...
A while back we decided that it'd be interesting to take a look at what constitues good flow. Flow, a term you'll find passed around on US lacrosse forums by spotty teenagers like it was the only copy of playboy in the entire high school, originated from the description of hair residing in a buffon nature from the bottom of your lid, but has now become much more than its origins. What makes flow unique is that to different people it means different things. However in our TopJFlow series of articles we've been taking a look at what constitue good lacrosse flow in our eyes. Think of us as Vogue. If it's in Vogue then it is 'sooo hot right now'. We started with Part 1 on Helmets, and Part 2 was with Jerseys. Today we take a look at what goes on below the waist. And don't twist that.
Recently the website VideoJug stopped off via a mid-season Hillcroft Lacrosse training session to record a series of educational training videos for their website. The site, with slogan "Get Good at Life" is a free site that features 1000's of videos with tips, answers, and instructions on how to do anything from DIY to sports, to finances... They were looking to update their content on Lacrosse, and liased with the South London Club to film some lighthearted videos aimed at beginners to the game to help new players out with their first steps into the sport.
Lacrosse players and playettes everywhere... Laxmas has arrived. With it so close, I hope all you chaps have hung up your “adrenaline” stockings, and haven’t peaked underneath that spoon shaped wrapping paper. Laxmas happens every year around this time - domestic players have hung up their boots for the Christmas break (plus five weeks of lame weather) and BUCS players are smashing University socials up and down the country.
Ever wandered what the Christmas break means to the fore runners of our sport? Or just how much Kyle Harrison or Matt Danowski got out on the lash at Uni - whilst still entertaining us with the fantastic level of lacrosse? We are of course referring to the division one NCAA players who give our sport its good name, and here at TopJLax we wanted to have a look at the more casual side of their University life. TopJLax met up with a player who has started games in the top flight of the NCAA even as a freshman – he was scouted by and played under one of the biggest names in lacrosse coaching, and who has decided to remain nameless in his first interview for the site. Enjoy...
At the recent IMLCA convention over the pond ion the U.S, the keynote speaker for the first night was Duke Coach Danowski. After leading the team to the 2010 NCAA Division I title, Danowski is a man with undoubtable pedigree and coaching acumen and he laid out his non-negotiable (read: never to be changed) rules that the title-winning Duke team had to follow. They're a great insight into the basic skill sets that all players, regardless of ability, should always aspire to keep to.
